I didn't watch it as I cannot abide Jeremy Kyle but I can defend some people who end up in A & E by ambulance. I listen to what I'm told about ringing 111 so did just that last weekend when I had chest pain. My BP machine was showing normal, for me, readings so I left it for a while before ringing them. As soon as I said chest pain and T2 diabetes guess what? They sent paramedics. I could not have been more apologetic. I had not called for them. I wanted a simple chat with someone as to whether I needed to go to A & E at all. I had an out of hours doctor's appointment made for me the following morning. I still didn't feel well but was assured I wasn't anything other than under the weather. I had the same last Friday evening but didn't want the same thing happening so waited until I felt really concerned this time. I still only rang 111 though. This time I asked them to have a doctor call me before sending anything which they did. Guess what. Ambulance sent and in St George's all night. I am being sent for a heart stress test but neither time paramedics turned up here did I call them. Even when you do as they tell you you end up in A & E. My experience has made me wonder how many other people have had the same experience so just went to A & E instead of bothering with all the preamble that goes along with ringing 111. Just a thought.
