Well in light of this I'll tell you a little story. My Dad was cutting back brambles in the field behind his house a few weeks ago (during the postal strike) and saw what he thought was a rucksack in the undergrowth. The brambles had obscured it. When he hacked away and finally could get a hand to it he couldn't budge it. He persevered and dragged this very heavy thing out of the undergrowth but couldn't get it to the house without going and getting a wheelbarrow. When he finally got it out and in the barrow and up the garden he had a good look at it. It was a Royal Mail post bag jammed full of letters and weighed a good deal.image Some lovely postie had thrown it in the bushes rather than deliver the post. He tried calling the sorting office but no reply. Called the local Post Office and they said "Oh well they won't be there they're on strike" no-one would collect it. He called the police and told them he thought a crime had been committed (well it is a crime to tamper with or damage the mail) and they came to collect it. Lord knows how long it had been there! All I could think was all those poor people not getting letters from loved ones or legal documents or anything important!!! It would still be there now if Dad hadn't unearthed it! Its a shame and a disgrace that these things happen and I don't suppose the culprit will ever be caught or brought to book!!! Gone are the days of having the same reliable postie for 20 or 30 years! Its all temporary contract workers and it will never be the same again. Progress has a lot to answer for!imageimage
