I would ditto everything Joanna and Teejay have said and add that I believe to run a post office you would need a licence. I would also ask why this shop/post-office is for sale? What other shops are close by/within a short travelling distance. What did the shop sell - is this something that your area really needs? As Joanna says people come into buy bits and then buy other odds and ends while they're there. Also the majority of retail premises are usually leased and it's only the stock and goodwill that you would buy - but this depends on the area/type of property. You'd probably need to employ a good accountant to sort out tax returns, payments to staff etc too not to mention having to travel to get new stock - as a some wholesalers don't actually deliver small qty's to small outlets.

Hubby worked in BIL's shop for the past 8 years and in that time BIL has had no holidays - worked long hours - had to put up with occasional threats/violence!! - hence he's now sold the shop and hubby is currently looking for work !!

Seriously don't want to put you or anyone else off running a shop - I'd love to do this too - but if you're giving it serious consideration you need to ascertain the effect of this on your current lifestyle - and whether it would be a bona-fide option!!

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Kind regards

Christine
