I haven't owned a shop, but I did work in the village post office. It can be very busy at times and other times very boring. The post office will not let you run their business without training, and there is quite a lot to learn, and it can look daunting at first, but like everthing else, practice makes perfect. lol. It depends if this is your total income. The post office will generate some income and hopefully the shop will pay it's way. I would be very wary these days of post office closure, and also with the post office you will have to open, whether you are ill or not, you can't just close for the afternoon because you are not feeling well, because of the contract you will have with them. Would the shop on it's own be enough. In our village there is a small craft shop, which cannot possibly be cost effective, but they are retired and just have it for an interest (he makes dolls houses) I would love to have had a shop and post office a few years ago, but now I would think very carefully about the post office side, especially with all the closures, maybe not now, but in the next lot, you never know. It could prove to be much more difficult to sell later.
