Not sure if it helps, because not sure exactly what you want to say, but instead of the dust could you use imagery of glitter. I know that anyone who enters my house ends up leaving with at least a little bit of glitter on them. As the poem says, it's not what you gather, it's what you scatter, and I do tend to scatter glitter everywhere. It's almost like people leave my home with a tiny little bit of me (or my home) attached to them.
