My Dad is exactly the same. Has been on painkillers etc. for ages and doc said he had quite good mobility in his knee so wouldnt send him to specialist. He is 83 and doc didnt want to put him through an operation unless it was necessary. He went back to doc because he is limping terribly now and was sent for xrays. Just like Paul, it turns out it is his hip that is the problem and he is now waiting for an appointment to see a Specialist. Pain in another area is quite common as in heart attacks you can have pain across your back or arm or even no pain at all. Think they call it deferred pain. I'm sure everything will go well and I believe the recovery time is less for a hip than a knee.
