I use H***z sponge pudding tins to make little 4" cakes at Christmas etc. You can make 4 cakes from and 8" cake recipe.

Old tights (washed of course) to strain lumps out of icing for fine piping work.

I use empty salad cream bottles (the squirty kind) for watering house plants instead of a watering can.

I have used drinks bottles with bottom cut off, which have nozzles fitted to them to drip feed hanging baskets etc.

My ultimate recycling is an old pillow slip I have as an under pillow slip (i.e. under the proper pillow slip) that my grandmother must have made, as it is all hand-stiched with french seams, etc - obviously made from an old cotton sheet - it is still going strong and it must be at least 60 years old. (they don't make them like that anymore)

Old shirts for painting overalls for the kids.

Does anybody remember having the toes cut out of their sandals to make them last longer - wonder if that will come back into fashion ?
