I never throw clothes away I either give them to a charity that is doing a market stall for them to sell or if they are not good enough for that I cut them up and store them for use as cleaning cloths e.g. for very dirty jobs then you can just discard them, I have a stack under the sink in the utility room I also recycle old towels for cleaning cloths.
Use old sheets and duvet covers as dust sheets or for collecting hedge cuttings in the garden.
I save all take-away containers and re-use either in freezer or for storage
I have a scrap pile of paper that has been printed on one side- very useful when the grandchildren are here.

When I was at work, after a rebranding we had to have new headed paper- we had loads of the old stuff we were told to shred- not me, I cut the headed bit off and shredded it, the rest went home with me and I am still using it 6 years on- good quality paper too.

DH is used to me removceing thigs from the bin that he has discarded.
