I have bought the rotary trimmers and the sliding type with a blade. The blades I found kept needing to be replaced after not that many uses, so I bought a guillotine from Staples about 7 years ago, and it cuts everything. I have never sharpened the blades, and I use it all the time, even trimming round small squares (my scissor cutting is not too straight) when matting and layering. Would never use anything else now. It was on offer at the time - reduced from £50 to £25, and then they took another discount off at the checkout, so I reckon I got a good deal. I do have another guillotine in the house for other use, bought from Viking direct, and although it was about the same price, with discount, it is not quite as good, you have to hold the handle firmly or it sometimes doesn't cut too cleanly.
