I had a lot of problems with the first pair, mainly because I worked in a library and the students would insist in holding the papers at an angle while explaining what they wanted. I became very adept at reading upside down! The year before I had tried a pair of reading and a pair of distance glasses, but gave that up as a bad job when I was an usherette at one of the college award ceremonies. I had the choice of either being able to see where I was walking, essential I reckoned as I was up and down a flight of narrow stairs, or being able to read the seating arrangements on the tickets.
By the time I bought the second pair I had twigged how to use them, unfortunately my brain and eyes ended up at odds with each other, hence the double vision. We have all reached a stage where I, my brain, and my eyes have reached some sort of agreement. Thought the optician today did say we had better leave it at that or my brain might go off in a huff again if it got confuzzled. He also said that there wasn't much change in y prescription, not enough to bother about anyway. Sooo I am some £250 better off than I thought I was going to be.
Apparently the slight cataract in my left eye is no worse than it was fourteen months ago, there is a slight one in my right eye, but nothing to panic about yet. My field of vision test is fine, ditto all the other tests, no sign of the glaucoma my mother suffers from.
My reading specs by the way are 2.5 magnification on top of the normal reading prescription. I told 'em I needed them for my mini crochet/knitting, also need 'em for parchment craft and cross stitch too. Boots have three different types of varifocals - gold, silver, and bronze. I bought the silver ones last time, which gives me better reading coverage, allegedly, can't say I've noticed much difference myself. The gold ones are supposed to be even better. Of course all these added extras do add to the cost. I think it was about £40 more for the silver, and £85 more for the gold option. Then there was extra for the coating, which I didn't bother having on my readers. I do get a reduction for being over the age of common sense (hahaha), ditto free eye tests, and of course one did take adventage of the buy one, get one free offer that Boots had last year, and again this year. I think most optician's do that these days, the big ones anyway.
