We have a labrador - he walks fine with my husband, off the lead a lot of the time and stops when told and comes back etc for him.  They did a few training classes when he was a puppy.  If I try to walk him he pulls a lot so I don't.  Terry had an ingrowing toenail treated earlier this year and was out of action for a few days and Mack just wouldn't go out with me because Terry was still indoors.  The granddaughters managed to get him to go one day and the next couple of days he went in the car to the end of the road and Terry threw the ball for him to run after but he was reluctant to go when Terry was still in the car.  He's definitely a 'one-man dog' .
