I used to vist a few like Mr T and this lady, when I was nursing, and mostly they wanted to stay where they were - one was literally dragged kicking and screaming when she had to be removed for a few days to get the vermin out because they were causing so much trouble to neighbours -fleas rats, mice, feral cats etc. Within a year it was back to square one and the whole process repeated.
I saw the programme with the lady in the bunker, and she clearly didn't want to leave and go somewhere more comfortable. I don't remember what happend, as it was first shown some time ago and my memory ain't what it was!! I do rememebr thinking that her childhood might have been the same - it would be interesting to know how she got like that. Mr T had been a refugee and used to saving anything he laid his hands on, but not sure about this lady.
Has anyone been watching the programme Lorraine Kelly has made about the Chawner family? The girl, Emma, who was (like all the family) grossly overweight appeared on X factor or pop star or something, in a 'wedding' dress her father had made. They are trying- totally unsuccesfully- to get the family to lose weight and turn their lives around. It is on Bio from Tuesday and then repeated most evenings.
