Wishing you all the best with your op.  I know what you mean about the hand gel and lack of some visitors using it. I think people need to be challenged more.
You can perhaps give your husband a tutorial on present wrapping before you go in? smiley: wink
OH was in recently as an emergency admission. It was a surgical ward and he noticed(scrutinised) all staff using the gel thankfully. He said he would have asked them to use it if they hadn't! He too was given the red body wash to use top to toe. He has to go in again next week for another op and has had his pre-admission done. His MRSA tests were done whilst in hospital. He is grateful to be having a general this time, after being told last time he would have a general and being treated with a local on the ward!smiley: eek He nearly went through the ceiling with pain and a nurse watching (teaching hospital) nearly passed out. And my OH has a very high pain threshold! His usual surgeon said last week that he had been through too much to have another local and they are going to sort a few things out too for him. All resulting from radiotherapy damage a few years back now. He hasn't had a 5 day cleansing plan though? I am so pleased that it is this surgeon this time!
My Mum did not have a General for her new knee, in fact told them she didn't want one! She had an epidural but was not aware of everything going on. She asked afterwards if they had builders on the ward because of the knocking and banging?smiley: laugh
