I'm very much addicted to inkpads and am embaressed to admit have about 150 full size and the same again in the small cube sizes. Out of those I'd say less than a dozen were pigment inks.
I prefer to use versafine for watercolouring as it picks up more detail than stazon and definitely with clear stamps which don't always like dye inks. Not too keen on kaleidacolours as even with Barbaras card it looses it's colour, I used normal glossy card once and 3 days later there wasnt a bit of colour left.
I water colour, sponge, stipple, brush, dtp, brayer, splodge (wipe on craft mat then mist with water), edge and do all sorts with the dye inks. Kiss & the rocknroll techniques work beautifully with them, they're great inside embossing folder or for swiping over embossed lines. The more water soluble ones I use for edging paper flowers then mist to get a softer graduated effect. I stamp on or use them to colour tint ribbons. Distress ink painted over watercolour pencils gives a real depth of colour that you'd normally associate with promarkers.
My full sets of distress & su inks, black & grey versafine & momento and a couple of versamarks are the ones I keep in arms reach. My adirondacks, big n juicys, nick bantocks & brilliance are all a stretch away and the rest are in boxes on a shelf behind me. I love my inks lol.
