Does anyone have this? Hubby and I have been going to the same optician for years (a private one, not one of the larger ones) and for a change decided to try our local Tesco optician. So glad we did. Within 5 mins he had diagnosed Macular Degeneration and referred him to a specialist who he saw within 2days. Sadly it was too late as one had turned wet and gone too far. To say we are devastated is an under statement! After questioning our old optician , it seems he was diagnosed in 2005! Of coarse they say they told him, but I don't believe them as I asked them on three different occasion what the problem was, and was told sun damage and other damage. As he was a builder hubby had metal in that eye once and a blackthorn stuck in his eye that needed hospital treatment so I thought that was what they meant. Even so, they never gave him the AMD booklet or told him about the wet and dry type and the fact that you have to do something fast if things change. It's even more sad as my mother had it and my father was an optician so I was very aware of it in my life. I can't believe I never suspected it .
The only suggestion from the specialist is to try Macushield? Has anyone heard of this and tried it?
Sorry for the rant, it's good to get it off my chest. Barbara.
