I was just in the bathroom and I heard that beep that smoke alarms give towards the end of the battery life. I struggle to get out my stepladder, carry it to the landing and climb up and remove the smoke alarm outside my bedroom door. Hold it to my ear and listen, then I hear another beep and it wasn't in my ear. I replace the smoke alarm, test it, then go downstairs to the hallway. Beep. I go to the kitchen and get the steps that I keep there, Up the steps, remove the smoke alarm and take it into this room. Beep, not the one in this room! Ah, then I remember, when they fitted the two new ones they left one of my old ones in situ so that it wouldn't look ugly. Yep, it was that one so I have removed it and the battery and have put the other one back. I think perhaps three smoke alarms within ten feet was overkill, I thought they had removed the battery!
