I keep hearing or seeing people mention that this will allow you to download and cut anything. This is wrong.
The software will allow you to have access on your computer to all of the images from all of the cartridges which you can then flip, weld, rotate, etc. BUT when you then want to cut the sheet of images the cricut will prompt you to insert the correct cartridge.
Therefore you will not be able to cut any image you want and you will have to own the relevant cartridge that the image you require to cut is from.
I have been looking into ciricut/robo/wizard/cuttlebug so that i might get one for xmas. So i have been searching offical sites etc for information and realised that alot of people have been given the wrong impression about the new software by people saying it allows you to download images they don't say you need the cartridge to cut them though as they are often trying to sell the machine. The official cricut website does tell you that you will need the cartridges.
This is some of the offical text:-
This software also allows you to quickly and easily move, rotate, weld, skew, flip, and size the characters and shapes. You work with an onscreen cutting mat to create your own cutting design, even using characters from more than one cartridge. What you see is what you cut, saving you precious time, paper, and cutting blades. Save the cutting mat layouts you design for future use or share them with friends. Once you design the mat layout, simply have your Cricut cartridges on hand and Cricut DesignStudio will let you know when to insert a cartridge so that it can cut your design.
Cricut DesignStudio allows you to cut with the font and shape sets on the Cricut cartridges. The Cricut machine remains a cartridge-based system.
Hope this helps anyone also looking to see what to choose for christmas.
