I've been asked to make a birthday card for my friend's mum who is practically blind. I'd like to make the card quite textured so that she can
"feel" it and wondered if any of you ladies had any ideas, unfortunately I don't have an embossing machine or anything (yet, I'm working on
it for my birthday!).
I'm hoping you'll all manage to do your normal "magic trick" and come up with lots of ideas for me. I'd be very grateful if you could
help.

Chrissie if you want some embossed bits let me know and I'll do some for you, the cuttlebug ones are quite deep and would be ideal.

Ribbons, Fabric flowers....could spray these with some perfume first.Heat embossed greeting....(peel-offs might dislodge)

You might want to use flowers with the actual petals or the whole flower itself curved, then mounted on foam so it would be raised. Same would apply for
birthday numbers or her name. How about using some textured paper too, such as suede-effect or something else nice to the touch. If you do use flowers, add a
drop of perfume to each one for smelly effect!

How about using Glitter Girls embossing boards ... flowers on Majestic or Bookatrix .... also lines from the Romance board ... I have used these for a lady who
has sight difficulties, as well as emobossed cuttlebug backgrounds are brilliant.

Ribbons, Flowers (like these http://www.joannasheen.com/craft-supplies/paper-flowers/), or those new fabric ones, that she
can feel, beads threaded onto the ends of the ribbons, and this is where my dangly beads come in because they are so tactile. As much as possible raised.
Velvet ribbon if you can. Soft feathers. If she has some sight, I would use strong colours against a white background, so that she can see the contrast? I
love the perfume tip! Great idea. |

I once had to do a birthday cake for a blind person and iced their name in braille.
If you do a google for braille - you can find the format for the letters. so if anybody has to do a card for a blind person that can read braille - could do this with pearls/gems etc. Mags |

Can you find some of the paper that feels like suade ?Its velvety in texture,our garden centre sells it so could be easy to get hold of.Ali x

I did one for Sheilas Mum, who is blind, and I pricked it, so that she could (hopefully) feel the pattern. Then at the bottom I went to a
Braille site and pricked her name too. xx

hi chrissie
colins daughter is blind so i try to make a card with differant textures,i have in the pass put beads on the card,buttons and also flowers,embossed is nice as she can feel the differance also feathers or ...dare is say "TASSLES" lol she loves them as they feel nice on her skin and makes her laugh ..also done a beaded angel once using differant size beads hope this helps wendy xxx |

If you want to be really experimental you could always paint the paper with acrylic paint and then heat it with your heat gun, you will get a sort of bubbly
surface.
And once I made a "spice" card, I draw lines on the card and then filled the empty spaces with ground coffee, ground ginger, cardamum and other spices I dont know the word for in english....it smelled for ages...lol Eva |
