I'm thinking of getting one of these. Where is the best place (I know Joanna doesn't have them so I won't get in to trouble for asking
) to buy one?

Paul wrote this on another thread - it might be what you are after
Quote: Do Crafts do a glass cutting mat for about £9.99 and it is 13" x 13" but the one I have is by EK Success and I paid around £18 for it! Suzanne |

I cheat and use a glass table mat - probably not as good as the mats designed specifically for cutting but then again I only paid 99p for it so can't
complain, it's about A4 size completely smooth I would have nicked the A3 glass chopping board from my kitchen but it has the hammer finish LOL. I do find
it much easier than using a craft mat especially for detail cutting. Gail

Iuse a bog standard dirt cheap white ceramic tile, in fact I have loads of them for different uses. Paul suggested I might like to tile the bathroome with
them!!

Smooth glass chopping board from any of the supermarkets or £ shops, try & get one without the lil feet. Then use it on top your old cutting mat,
you'll still have guidelines but cups of coffee will no longer leave a large and unremoveable bump

I would have nicked the A3 glass chopping board from my kitchen but it has the hammer finish LOLI use the cutting board from the kitchen it's hammered but smooth on the underneath so i took the feet and backing of and re stuck the feet on to the hammered side and i can see the lines from my cutting mat underneath it Carol x |

I have the do crafts one because I scrapbook as well and it is perfect for 12x12 papers. It does seem to make a big difference as to the smoothness of the
cutting

I took Paul's advice and bougght a cheap clip frame with glass from my local photographic shop - it works brilliantly.

I got the EK success one. Got it before the Xcut one came out (local Craft Central has those). I used a glass placemat for a while but it became scratched and
caught the knife after a while so I am hoping the proper thing doesn't do that. So far it's brilliant and unmarked after a lot of use.
BTW noticed I've now passed the 1000 posts - didn't realise I talked so much LOL Janet |

Thanks everyone
. I'll pop into town today and see what I can find.
Unfortunately Leicester is not known for its craft shops and there is a distinct dearth of Craft Centrals and the like in the area but I'll do my best.

I didnt know you can get glass craft mats--(Where have I been to miss this info??? lol)
I dont want to put dampers on anyone who has one but I once heard on a Cooking show from a top chef that glass mats werent good for your knives! Wether thats just his opinion or the fact is true I cant say! But I can say that I think I have only ever seen chefs use wooden boards! Personally I use a wooden board in the kitchen and would never change! I do wonder what effect a glass craft cutting mat would have on your cutting tools! Dont let me put you off but its worth a thought! Margaret XX |

I used to use a cheap glass kitchen cutting board, but then a friend bought me the x cut one for my birthday. I must say that I do prefer it and it will be
ideal for scrapbooking when I find the time.
Margaret the chef was right, your blades do wear out much quicker which is why I only use mine for certain things. Hugs, Judith.x |

Yes, the glass cutting mats do blunt the blades quicker - I have a knife that I keep just for that and the blades are cheap to replace. However, I do think
that the cost of the replacement blades outweighs the finish that you get from cutting onto glass.
I must say that I cannot take credit for this, I was told this by 2 lovely Dutch ladies at a trade show a few years back! Paul x |
