NU-NU-NEWBIE TO CRAFTING....HELP!!! |
Lead | |
|
Hello there everyone, As I've said I'm an absolute beginner who has fallen in love with all the fabulous oriental card making, CD's (esp
Joanna's) beautiful papers, gorgeous embellishments etc, that I've seen. I'd like to think I'm a little creative and already have some ideas
for cards, but have no idea where to start with equipment and stuff. Are there some good books (Or do I really need to read them)? What tools am I really going
to need/use, where's the best place to get some bargain (but good) card stock, etc etc? As you can see I'm in dire need of some/lots of help. I really
would be most grateful for any help/advice that anyone can take the time to give me, I can see by just reading the forums how busy you all are......it sure can
take over your life, I haven't even started and my head's already bursting with projects. I have joined the create & craft club as well but the
equipment seems endless and what do they all do....HELP......PLEASE... Cheers Marie.

WOW what a question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A good cutting mat is a must, Scissors - various sizes but whatver feels comfortable for you, Card stock - well, where do I begin??? Do you have a crafts shop near you??? some sell a box of various cards (you fill it yourself) for about £4 or £5, theyre are good sites on the internet - have a look in "hints and tips" or "weblinks" There's a start, someone else will surrgest other items, good luck and welcome to the gang of people who never have any money!!! Doreen ps you can always look in Joanna's shop!!!!!

Welcome ... crafting is a bit of a bottomless pit as there is always something you want or need. I would suggest getting yourself a couple of crafting
magazines, they often have a list of things for beginners. You will need a cutting mat and knife, scissors, glue, foam pads, double sided tape, steel edged
rular and card stock. Maybe buy a kit to start with? I am sure many of us did that at the very begining, you will see then what you like to do as there are so
many aspects of crafting.
There is some lovely card stock in Joanna's shop plus some beautiful ink jet papers and acetates. You will also find, scissors, tweezers, knives, rulers etc. |

I know that some of the crafting magazines have a page of basic equipment to get you started.
However the only one I have to hand at the moment (Quick Cards Made Easy) doesn't - has someone else on the forum got one that does? |

I would say try and watch Create and Craft as much as you can for a while - and if someone demonstrating really seems easy to follow then tape it so you could
refer to it again (that doesnt mean you have to buy a ton! just watch)
you'll need tools like a craft mat - scissors, maybe decoupage snips, tweezers etc - another possibility is to treat yourself to a DVD that teaches how to do things - maybe my Four Seasons or one from the EZ Score Board people with Wendy or Audrey - or if you have a local craft shop then see if they do classes .... lots of people learnt most of the basics from Create and Craft and then went on with trial and error and lots of mistakes - the one thing I hope you will find on this forum is that you can ask a zillion questions and we will all help as much as we can - have fun! smiles joanna |

I started with buying a mixed pack of all sorts of things from e-bay - it contained some cards, envelopes, toppers, bits of ribbon, buttons, few
embellishments, paper flowers, etc. Not all of it was particularly useful (then) but it got me started with the basics..............
Most of what I learnt was from C&C I have to say - get the ideas and then adapt to suit your abilities and your stash and your pocket. Good luck. C xx |

I wouldn't be without my cutting mat, scoring board and banana scoring tool and paper trimmer. My "tool" box has scissors, double-sided tape and
glue pen and tape pen, which are constantly in use.
