Can any of the Sheenie gardeners please help me. I have 2 concrete patio pots in front of my lounge window. I have been growing Lavender in them but this
year it has dies on me. As the spot only gets the sun for a couple of hours in the early morning does anyone know of any nice shrubs or perennials that grow
in a shady position
thanks sandra xx |

There are some lovely varieties of Hostas about, and they grow quite happily in the shade in fact they prefer it. But you have to watch out as the snails and
slugs like them as well.

Typically Azaleas, ornamental ferns, cordyllne [sp?]. However, I also have had success with sun-loving hardy plants such as Hypericum, Thyme etc which are
tough as old boots, and which seem quite happy in the shady parts of my garden.

Thanks for the replies. At least I'll have some idea what to look for when I go to the Nursery and will sound as if I have some knowledge as to what
I'm after.

Early morning sun is a killer as it's the time when the dew is still on the plants and you can get really badly scorched leaves and casualties so make sure
you get ones that can stand the sun at that time. I think succulents might fit the bill but obviously it would have to be ones that stand shade too.
I had a hosta on my early morning patio for a while and it seems to do okay but I had it tucked in the corner that never got direct sun. Ann xxx |
