Has this country gone completely mad. I think I shouldn'd fill in any govt forms i.e Tax returns as I may hurt myself with the pen point,swallow the pen,have a heart attach...... Oldbee

The problem is we have got as bad as America was 30 yrs ago, with people suing over things that in the past were part and parcel of everyday life. It's costing councils and schools a fortune and that has to come out of already tight budgets. I think these things should go before a judge should ask people how stupid they think they are before deciding on the amount of compensation - it might make them think twice, it's the old ' nobody said I couldn't do it, and I haven't got a brain' arguement. Things we grew up doing and no-one ever got hurt and we were all fine and happy. You should hear what the fire brigade have just stopped due to this rubbish, it was all over the papers. It's cos they have a new legal worker and shes stopping things they've been doing for 30 years without a single problem. The firemen are all so angry.

But I can also see why they do it, as Jan said its the fear of being sued. Another not so welcome thing that has come over from America, like the chef who cut himself when slicing some veggies, he sued his employer because the knife was sharp. Time to get back to reality, we need a judge to say sorry these things can't be sued over, there are part and parcel of life/work etc. Sue
