Hi all. Yesterday on the news there was a story about a 2 month old baby in Cairns who had been admitted to hospital with a suspected drug overdose. In later
reports it was discovered that she had somehow swallowed a pill, presumed to be ecstasy. Her parents were arrested last night. Today they have made bail. The
baby girl is doing very well and will be returned to her parents care when she is released from hospital.
Yes you heard right. The 2 month old baby girl who was in the care of her parents, who somehow ended swallowing a prohibited drug that can kill an adult, is going to be released back into the care of these same people. What are the authorities thinking? It's not like this is a 2 year old who accidentally got into her parents stash of illegal drugs. This is a 2 MONTH OLD BABY. A baby that is absolutely dependent on the people around her to look after her. This happened yesterday. How could the authorities have determined that she will be safe returning to her parents care. I am not saying that the parents fed her this pill, but the fact is while she was in the care of her parents, she overdosed on an illegal drug. Even if they had nothing to do with the drug, they were still guilty of putting their child in danger. They are not innocent. They should be held accountable. They should at least lose the right to see their child, at least until the situation has been investigated fully. And this is not a 24 hour investigation. After all, they have been charged and bailed, not had the charges dropped. If the police have determined that there is evidence that a crime has been committed, WHY CAN'T CHILD SERVICES SEE IT?

Sorry, but this just really upsets me. What does someone have to do before the right thing happens? GRRRRRR!
