This happened to me this afternoon, it isn't a cut and paste of an email or anything like that. After I got in from work this afternoon I got a text message which read
The government has introduced a Debt Settlement Order, this means that people struggling with debt can apply to have it wiped off to apply txt DEBT. To stop txt STOP
I didn't believe it for a moment but was a bit perturbed about the fact that this had come directly to my mobile, the number of which I do not hand out freely and for a moment (but only a moment) I was tempted to ring the number and ask who they were and how they had got my number. Instead, as I usually do, I checked it out online and found that this (and other variations on the same message) is definitely a scam and that it should just be ignored, even texting STOP or phoning to find out how they had got my number could have led to further scamming attempts. When I spoke to my husband about it I discovered that he had also had this message a few weeks ago but had assumed that it was about making an IVA and had just deleted it.
