Following on from Irene's thread and not wishing to hijack it - what other forms of cost saving have you come up with or are you considering.
I've just remembered that because my car insurance is so high (result of having a London postcode) I have given up renting a garage from the council (which we've rented for about 35 years) they put the rent up 50% this April
and by handing it back I'm saving a thousand pounds in rent - the extra it added to my insurance was £36.16 for the year.
I think I may have to consider changing the car next for something with a smaller engine as it would be cheaper - can't get rid of it, as I use it for work and it halves the time it takes to visit my mum and dad and as they are now 82 and 90 respectively - it's still a must.
I think I might have to get the cook books out and start making cheap filling meals as prices are rising fast - I don't use Sainsburys very often these days, and while Tesco has been my main shop, I am using Asda more often. I found some things in Aldi are a bargain but others are more expensive than Tesco or Asda. Netto and Lidl are on my list for a bit of retail research. Having said that there are things I won't economise on - I'm fussy about baked beans and tomato soup in particular and my son won't drink cheap or ownbrand cola.
