Did anyone read my other thread a couple of weeks ago, then the saga continues. My OH eventually got an appointment with the urologist but not until the 15th October. However he had to see our GP yesterday (Wed) for a sicknote and she gave him another thorough checkout after we mentioned that we didn't now why he had had the original pains or why his bladder wasn't working. She said she thought he needed a MRI scan and she actually rang a nuerosurgeon at the Hallamshire in Sheffield (we don't have these in Chesterfield hospital) and he said he should have one urgently so we were posted off immediatley to the hospital but we had to go through A+E. Our GP's last words were you don't leave the hospital till you have had this scan. Having given the letter to the staff we were left waiting for nearly 2 hours before he was seen by the doctors and given all the same checks again and was then admitted to the ward because the scanner wouln't be opperational again till the next morning. The A+E doctor said depending on what they find he may have to be sent over to the Hallamshire. However come this morning the doctor doing his round told him he didn't think there was much wrong with him(even thoiugh he couldn't hardly walk at one point with the pain and his bladder isn't working) and didn't need a MRI scan but because one of the top surgeons over in Sheffield as said otherwise then it would be done but he may be in hospital up to a week while they organise it. Also he has been taking Tramadol for the pain since he left the A+E in Macclesfield over 3 weeks ago but because it is not marked up as a repeat prescription they won't give it to him in the hospital they want him to have paracetamol, which doesn't work for him. I may be getting cynical in my old age but I get the feeling they are just being awkward because someone higher in the other hospital has been involved. This is all too laughable you just couldn't make this story up.Sorry for the long rant again but I am getting so frustrated and angry because none seems to be bothered. and my OH has gone from a very fit man that was on the go all day to a slow one that cant get about very well with the pain

I left a message for our GP this morning and she rang me at lunch time. She was livid when I told her all that had happened and she said that when I went to visit at 2.30pm if it hadn't been done then I was to ring her straight away. As it was when I got there he had just got back from the scan. He was told there, that he was the last one to be done before it closed down till Tuesday.I'm wondering if our GP had been in touch. The results came back to the ward at about 4pm. The good news is that it wasn't the serious problem our GP thought it could be, however it appears he has 2 small bulges on the L4/L5 discs. The one good thing to come out of this is that they are trying to bring his urology appointment forward because the hospital doctor that discharged him said that was unacceptable to wait till October. We are still not sure what the outcome is going to be but at least it's not as serious as we thought. I called into our surgery on the way back from hospital to hand the discharge papers over and luck would have it our GP was in the reception. She looked at the results and said she wants to see him on Tuesday morning to discuss the results and medication. So he is now tucked up in bed and alot happier and so am I. Thanks again for your messages it does help to be able to talk about things on here.
