Posts: 5 (29/09/2007 19:29:33) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Hi A shim is a very thin piece of clear flexible film used to give the item just that little bit extra thickness to enable it to go through the embossing machine. Quickutz is a prime example as they supply shims in their die kutz. It's to provide a cleaner cut/embossing image if you have slightly thicker card or if the card is actually coated, eg glossy. So for the quickkuts dies you would put the shim on the smooth side just to give it that little extra thickness. Hope this helps Andtroy
